1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing Joe Beattie for being named Educator of the Year by the Hastings
1.3Chamber of Commerce.
1.4WHEREAS, the Hastings Chamber of Commerce strives to lead, promote, and advocate for
1.5the Hastings area business community to reinforce a strong local economy and annually recognizes
1.6outstanding contributors to the city; and
1.7WHEREAS, Joe Beattie has been selected for the Educator of the Year award by the Hastings
1.8Chamber of Commerce because of his demonstrated leadership and commitment to a creative
1.9curriculum that brings value to his students; and
1.10WHEREAS, Joe teaches biology at Hastings High School and has created a Field Biology
1.11class that provides students with authentic learning experiences through innovative teaching
1.12techniques, including outdoors class time spent studying ecosystems; and
1.13WHEREAS, through financial support from grants, businesses, and nonprofits, Joe's students
1.14have the opportunity to restore critical habitat and to work closely with groups like the Army Corps
1.15of Engineers, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and the Department of Natural Resources;
1.16and
1.17WHEREAS, through Joe's connections in the community, the school district was given 56
1.18acres of land comprising most of Minnesota's diverse ecosystem types, which will provide hands-on
1.19learning opportunities for students in Joe's Field Biology class; and
1.20WHEREAS, Joe has been recognized for his outstanding teaching by other organizations,
1.21including his school district, Education Minnesota, the University of Minnesota, and the Minnesota
1.22Association of Soil and Water Conservation; and
1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.24congratulates Joe Beattie for being named Educator of the Year by the Hastings Chamber of
1.25Commerce and extends gratitude for his continued service to the community.
1.26BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.27enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.28Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Joe Beattie.
