1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Elk River High School's culinary team on team and
1.3individual victories in competition.
1.4WHEREAS, high school extracurricular activities help develop well-rounded young
1.5adults; and
1.6WHEREAS, on March 4, 2014, the culinary team from Elk River High School took part
1.7in the HMEF Sysco ProStart Invitational, sponsored by the Hospitality Minnesota Education
1.8Foundation and Sysco Minnesota, in Mounds View; and
1.9WHEREAS, each team had one hour to prepare a three-course meal using two butane
1.10burners, and they were judged on teamwork, sanitation, menu presentation, knife skills, and
1.11taste; and
1.12WHEREAS, of the ten competing teams from across the state, the Elk River team took first
1.13place in the culinary competition for their "tuna three ways" appetizer, entree of coffee-crusted
1.14venison and gnocchi, and dessert of berry cheesecake with orange sabayon; and
1.15WHEREAS, eight postsecondary culinary and hospitality schools offered scholarships to
1.16members of the top-placing teams; and
1.17WHEREAS, individual honors for knife skills were also awarded to Elk River students
1.18Ethan Lenertz and Tori Morgan; and
1.19WHEREAS, the team now advances to the national invitational, to be held May 3-5 at the
1.20Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota
1.22that it congratulates the members of the Elk River High School culinary team on their skill and
1.23teamwork and wishes them success in the national invitational competition.
1.24BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.25an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.26the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Elk River
1.27High School culinary team.
