1.1A Senate resolution
1.2commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Belmont Massacre and the
1.3155th anniversary of the Springfield Massacre
1.4WHEREAS, the 150th anniversary of the Belmont Massacre is August 24; and
1.5WHEREAS, the 155th anniversary of the Springfield Massacre is August 24-26; and
1.6WHEREAS, the 1909 monument in Ashley Park honoring the people who were killed
1.7during the Indian attacks will be dedicated by the City of Jackson on August 25; and
1.8WHEREAS, a memorial service will take place in Jackson for those who died in 1857
1.9and 1862 whose remains were reburied in 1899 at the location where the monument was later
1.10placed in 1909; and
1.11NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.12commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Belmont Massacre in remembrance of the victims.
1.13BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.14commemorates the 155th anniversary of the Springfield Massacre in remembrance of the victims.
1.15BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.16enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.17Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the City of Jackson.
