1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating the Minneapolis Washburn High School boys basketball
1.3team on being the runner-up in the 2012 State High School Class AAA
1.4boys basketball tournament.
1.5WHEREAS, competitive sports in our high schools are helpful in teaching the principles of
1.6sportsmanship and fair play, thereby contributing to better citizenship; and
1.7WHEREAS, after winning the Section 6 championship, the Minneapolis Washburn
1.8basketball team was one of eight teams that participated in the 2012 State High School Class
1.9AAA boys basketball tournament on March 21-24, 2012; and
1.10WHEREAS, after beating Rocori 52-49 in the quarterfinals and St. Paul Johnson 75-66 in
1.11the semifinals, they lost to the DeLaSalle Islanders 57-56 in overtime in the championship game
1.12of the tournament at Target Center to finish in second place; and
1.13WHEREAS, Joseph Doby led the Millers in points scored with 21 points, and Doby, Jerry
1.14Pratt, and Nick Anderson made the All-Tournament team; and
1.15WHEREAS, the Millers finished the season with a fantastic 29-3 record; and
1.16NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that
1.17congratulations are extended to the members of the Minneapolis Washburn High School boys
1.18basketball team for their sportsmanship and skill.
1.19BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare
1.20an enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of
1.21the Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the principal of
1.22Minneapolis Washburn High School.
