1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing the third Thursday of November as National Rural Health Day.
1.3WHEREAS, the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health is the membership
1.4association of the nation's 50 state offices of rural health. State offices of rural health provide
1.5information and support for rural communities, health professionals, and hospitals and clinics. They
1.6are dedicated to collaboration, education, communication, and innovation to improve health in
1.7small towns around the country; and
1.8WHEREAS, Minnesota's rural communities are wonderful areas to live and work. In these
1.9small towns and farming communities neighbors know each other, listen to each other, respect each
1.10other, and work together; and
1.11WHEREAS, rural hospitals and health systems are often the largest employers and the
1.12economic foundation of rural communities. Rural Minnesota's health professionals, hospitals, and
1.13clinics are dedicated to provide the best care possible; and
1.14WHEREAS, rural communities have unique health care needs, accessibility issues, a shortage
1.15of health care providers, an aging population suffering from chronic conditions, underinsured and
1.16uninsured citizens, and declining reimbursement rates; and
1.17WHEREAS, National Rural Health Day is an opportunity to honor the community-minded
1.18spirit in rural Minnesota. It also gives us a chance to bring to light the unique health care challenges
1.19that rural health care providers and citizens face and to showcase the efforts of rural health care
1.20providers; and
1.21NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.22recognizes Thursday, November 16, 2017, as National Rural Health Day.
1.23BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.24enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.25Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Office of Rural Health
1.26and Primary Care.
