1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating the Miesville Mudhens on their contributions to their community.
1.3WHEREAS, those civic-minded organizations who work tirelessly in their communities perform an
1.4important service deserving of special legislative recognition; and
1.5WHEREAS, the Miesville Mudhens, from a town of a mere 126 people located 15 miles west of
1.6Red Wing along Highway 61, are a big-time power in Class B amateur Town Team Baseball and have won
1.7five state championships; and
1.8WHEREAS, baseball has been played in Miesville since the 1920s, originally in surrounding farmers'
1.9pastures, and the team adopted the "Mudhens" nickname in 1948; and
1.10WHEREAS, Miesville's community magnet is Jack Ruhr Field on the western edge of town, home
1.11to the Mudhens, who are always a strong contender in the Cannon Valley Classic League; and
1.12WHEREAS, the "Field of Dreams"-like ballpark, named after their longtime president who oversaw
1.13all five of their state championships, opened in 1961 after 25 locals put up $100 each to build it, and in 1994,
1.14a crowd of more than 1,000 showed up to watch the first night game; and
1.15WHEREAS, the ballpark, situated between St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery and the Miesville Fire
1.16Department, has admission and concession prices that are family friendly; and
1.17WHEREAS, hand-painted signboards promoting local merchants form the outfield fence, and just
1.18beyond them is an actual cornfield planted by the farmer who donated the ballpark's land; and
1.19WHEREAS, Miesville is a popular destination because they can pull players from a number of towns
1.20around the Twin Cities within a 30-mile radius of their field, and they have coaches from the Minnesota
1.21Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that encourage junior college players and potential Division I players
1.22in the area to play for the team; and
1.23NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.24congratulates the Miesville Mudhens on their contributions to their community and to Minnesota Town
1.25Team Baseball.
2.1BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an enrolled
2.2copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the Chair of the Senate
2.3Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Miesville Mudhens.
