1.1A Senate resolution
1.2congratulating Skylar Little Soldier of Hastings High School on winning the
1.32022 Minnesota State High School League girls wrestling 132-pound
1.4championship.
1.5WHEREAS, competitive sports in our high schools are helpful in teaching the principles of
1.6sportsmanship and fair play, thereby contributing to better citizenship; and
1.7WHEREAS, individual and team championships are highly sought honors in high school
1.8academics and sports; and
1.9WHEREAS, Skylar Little Soldier, a sophomore at Hastings, is viewed as one of the best
1.10wrestlers in Minnesota and in the entire country; and
1.11WHEREAS, Skylar has been wrestling since she was five years old and first made Hastings
1.12wrestling history as a seventh-grader in the 2018-2019 season, when she became the first girl
1.13wrestler to record a varsity takedown, pin, and win; and
1.14WHEREAS, Skylar participated in the first-ever Minnesota State High School League girls
1.15wrestling tournament in the 132-pound division from March 3-5, 2022, at the Xcel Energy Center;
1.16and
1.17WHEREAS, the top four girls in the state in each weight class qualified for the state
1.18tournament and wrestled on the second day of individual competition; and
1.19WHEREAS, Skylar pinned Alley Altringer of Anoka in five minutes during her semifinal
1.20match and then pinned Kylie Donat of Bemidji in one minute and 42 seconds in the championship
1.21to become the first girls state champion; and
1.22WHEREAS, for the nationally ranked Skyler, who has made a name for herself on the club
1.23wrestling circuit and for USA wrestling, the next big goal is to make the world team in May in
1.24Texas; and
1.25NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.26congratulates Skylar Little Soldier of Hastings High School on winning the 2022 Minnesota State
1.27High School League girls wrestling 132-pound championship and commends her on her skill and
1.28sportsmanship.
1.29BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.30enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.31Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to Skylar Little Soldier.
