1.1A Senate resolution
1.2expressing the sense of the Senate in opposing the imposition of dress codes upon
1.3women in colleges and schools in India.
1.4WHEREAS, the Minnesota Senate reaffirms Minnesota as a welcoming state and expresses
1.5solidarity with the state's South Asian community; and
1.6WHEREAS, freedom of religion is a core value of the United States Constitution, and
1.7marginalizing individuals because of religious practices runs counter to this value; and
1.8WHEREAS, Muslim Day at the Capitol is March 10, 2022; and
1.9NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.10opposes the imposition of dress codes upon women in colleges and schools in India and finds these
1.11policies to be discriminatory and a violation of the human rights of the people and that it
1.12acknowledges the hijab as a protected expression of choice and identity.
1.13BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.14enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by his signature and that of the Chair of the
1.15Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Muslim American Society of
1.16Minnesota.
