1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to transportation; bridges; limiting bridge engineering, design, and
1.3construction costs in smaller cities;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section
1.4174.50, subdivision 6b.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 174.50, subdivision 6b, is amended to read:
1.7    Subd. 6b. Bridge engineering and, design, and construction costs in smaller
1.8cities. Until June 30, 2007, (a) The commissioner may make grants from the state
1.9transportation fund to a home rule charter or statutory city with a population of 5,000 or
1.10less and a net tax capacity of under $200,000 for design and preliminary, engineering,
1.11and construction of bridges on city streets. Grants under this subdivision are subject to
1.12the procedures and criteria established under subdivisions 5 and 6, and may be used for
1.13100 percent of the design and preliminary engineering costs. Total grants under this
1.14subdivision to all cities may not exceed $200,000.
1.15(b) No home rule charter or statutory city receiving a grant under paragraph (a) shall
1.16be required to pay more than $10,000 for engineering services and $10,000 for construction
1.17to repair or replace an existing bridge. If a bridge rehabilitation or replacement requires
1.18more than $10,000 in engineering services or $10,000 in construction, the additional costs
1.19shall be paid from the state transportation fund created in subdivision 2.
