1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to higher education; regulating the state grant amount of part-time
1.3students;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 136A.101, subdivision 5a.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 136A.101, subdivision 5a, is amended to
1.6read:
1.7    Subd. 5a. Assigned family responsibility. "Assigned family responsibility" means
1.8the amount of a family's contribution to a student's cost of attendance, as determined by a
1.9federal need analysis. For dependent students, the assigned family responsibility is 96
1.10percent of the parental contribution. For independent students with dependents other than
1.11a spouse, the assigned family responsibility is 86 percent of the student contribution.
1.12For independent students without dependents other than a spouse, the assigned family
1.13responsibility is 68 percent of the student contribution. For a student registering for less
1.14than full time, the office shall prorate the assigned family responsibility to the percent of
1.15full time for which the student is enrolled.
