1.2relating to the secretary of state; funding legal fees imposed by the federal
1.3courts; providing for reimbursement of expenses relating to the recount in the
1.42010 gubernatorial election; appropriating money.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. APPROPRIATION; PAYMENT OF LEGAL FEES.
1.7$280,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the secretary of state in fiscal year
1.82011 for the payment of legal fees imposed by the United States District Court, District of
1.9Minnesota, in the case of American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. et al v. Mark Ritchie
1.10et al. (Case 08-cv-5285-MJD-AJB). If a lesser amount is ordered, the remainder of the
1.11appropriation must be returned to the general fund. This appropriation remains available
1.12until June 30, 2013.
1.13 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION; REIMBURSEMENT OF RECOUNT COSTS.
1.14$322,000 is appropriated from the general fund to the secretary of state in fiscal year
1.152011 for the reimbursement of costs of recounts during the 2010 general election, to be
1.16paid to counties consistent with the cost survey of the counties previously conducted
1.17by the secretary of state and for reimbursement to the secretary of state costs in those
1.18recounts already paid by the secretary of state to the counties. This appropriation remains
1.19available until December 31, 2011.
1.20 Sec. 3. EFFECTIVE DATE.
1.21Sections 1 and 2 are effective the day following final enactment.
