1.2relating to marriage; authorizing certain mayors to perform civil marriages;
1.3amending Minnesota Statutes 2013 Supplement, section 517.04.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2013 Supplement, section 517.04, is amended to read:
1.6517.04 PERSONS AUTHORIZED TO PERFORM CIVIL MARRIAGES.
1.7Civil marriages may be solemnized throughout the state by an individual who has
1.8attained the age of 21 years and is a judge of a court of record, a retired judge of a court
1.9of record, a court administrator, a retired court administrator with the approval of the
1.10chief judge of the judicial district, a former court commissioner who is employed by the
1.11court system or is acting pursuant to an order of the chief judge of the commissioner's
1.12judicial district, the mayor of any home rule charter or statutory city, the residential school
1.13administrators of the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf and the Minnesota State
1.14Academy for the Blind, a licensed or ordained minister of any religious denomination, or
1.15by any mode recognized in section517.18 . For purposes of this section, a court of record
1.16includes the Office of Administrative Hearings under section14.48 .
1.17EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
