1.3remedial education;proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter

1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. [135A.082] REMEDIAL EDUCATION; SHARED-COST BURDEN.
1.7The costs for remedial courses taken by a postsecondary student who graduated from
1.8a Minnesota public high school after attending Minnesota public schools for at least three
1.9consecutive years; is enrolled in a public Minnesota postsecondary institution; requires
1.10and completes the remedial course within two years of high school graduation; and would
1.11otherwise have to pay for the course, shall be allocated as follows:
1.12(1) one-third of the cost shall be paid by the student;
1.13(2) one-third of the cost shall be paid by the Department of Education; and
1.14(3) one-third of the cost shall be paid by the public postsecondary institution.
1.15EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective for fiscal year 2016 and later and
1.16applies to remedial courses beginning on or after July 1, 2015.
