1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to labor and industry; prohibiting mandatory fire sprinkler installation;
1.3amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 299F.01, by adding a subdivision.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 299F.01, is amended by adding a
1.6subdivision to read:
1.7    Subd. 4d. Single-family dwelling; fire sprinklers. (a) The State Building Code,
1.8the State Fire Code, or a political subdivision of the state by code, by ordinance, as a
1.9condition of receiving public funding, or in any other way, must not require the installation
1.10of fire sprinklers, any fire sprinkler system components, or automatic fire-extinguishing
1.11equipment or devices in any new or existing single-family detached dwelling unit.
1.12(b) This subdivision does not affect or limit a requirement for smoke or fire
1.13detectors, alarms, or their components.
1.14EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
