1.4Statutes, chapter 168.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. [168.1294] "START SEEING MOTORCYCLES" PLATES.
1.7 Subdivision 1. Issuance of plates. The commissioner shall issue special "Start
1.8Seeing Motorcycles" plates or a single motorcycle plate to an applicant who:
1.9(1) is a registered owner of a passenger automobile, noncommercial one-ton pickup
1.10truck, motorcycle, or recreational motor vehicle;
1.11(2) pays a fee of $10 for each set of plates;
1.12(3) pays the registration tax as required under section 168.013, along with any
1.13other fees required by this chapter;
1.14(4) contributes a minimum of $10 annually to the motorcycle safety fund, created
1.15under section 171.06, subdivision 2a, paragraph (a), clause (1); and
1.16(5) complies with this chapter and rules governing registration of motor vehicles
1.17and licensing of drivers.
1.18 Subd. 2. Design. The representatives of American Bikers for Awareness, Training,
1.19and Education of Minnesota shall design the special plate to contain the inscription "Start
1.20Seeing Motorcycles" between the bolt holes on the bottom of the plate with a design area
1.21on the left side of the plate, subject to the approval of the commissioner.
1.22 Subd. 3. Plates transfer. On application to the commissioner and payment of a
1.23transfer fee of $5, special plates issued under this section may be transferred to another
1.24motor vehicle if the subsequent vehicle is:
2.1(1) qualified under subdivision 1, clause (1), to bear the special plates; and
2.2(2) registered to the same individual to whom the special plates were originally
2.3issued.
2.4 Subd. 4. Exemption. Special plates issued under this section are not subject to
2.5section 168.1293, subdivision 2.
2.6 Subd. 5. Fees. Fees collected under subdivision 1, clause (2), and subdivision 3 are
2.7credited to the vehicle services operating account in the special revenue fund.
2.8 Subd. 6. No refund. Contributions under this section must not be refunded.
2.9EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective January 1, 2013, for special "Start
2.10Seeing Motorcycles" plates issued on or after that date.
