1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to education; authorizing grants for collaborative urban educator
1.3recruitment and training programs; appropriating money.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. COLLABORATIVE URBAN EDUCATOR RECRUITMENT AND
1.6TRAINING PROGRAMS.
1.7The following sums are appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner of
1.8education in the fiscal years designated for grants to collaborative urban educator programs:

1.11$250,000 each year is for the Southeast Asian teacher program at Concordia
1.12University, St. Paul; $250,000 each year is for the collaborative urban educator program
1.13at the University of St. Thomas; $250,000 each year is for the Center for Excellence in
1.14Urban Teaching at Hamline University; and $250,000 each year is for East African teacher
1.15educator activities at Augsburg College.
1.16Any balance in the first year does not cancel but is available in the second year.
1.17Each institution shall prepare for the legislature, by January 15 of each year, a
1.18detailed report regarding the funds used. The report must include the number of teachers
1.19prepared as well as the diversity of each cohort of teachers produced.
1.20EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective July 1, 2013.
