1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to education; postsecondary; transferring money to Minnesota state
1.3colleges and universities for scholarships for the community paramedic program.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. APPROPRIATION; MINNESOTA STATE COLLEGES AND
1.6UNIVERSITIES; COMMUNITY PARAMEDIC PROGRAM.
1.7Of the appropriation made under Laws 2009, chapter 79, article 13, section 6, as
1.8amended by Laws 2009, chapter 173, article 2, section 4, $110,000 shall be transferred
1.9from the commissioner of veterans affairs to the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State
1.10Colleges and Universities to make grants to any Minnesota state college or university that
1.11is approved to teach an accredited community paramedic program. This grant money shall
1.12be used for scholarships to cover the cost of courses, supplies, and clinical expenses for
1.13eligible paramedics. Priority for allocation of the scholarships shall be given to honorably
1.14discharged military veterans currently residing in Minnesota or current members of the
1.15Minnesota National Guard. Eligible applicants must meet all criteria listed in Minnesota
1.16Statutes, section 144E.28, subdivision 9, and be successfully enrolled in an accredited
1.17community paramedic program. This onetime appropriation is available until expended.
1.18EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
