1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to education; requiring automatic external defibrillators in school
1.3buildings;amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 326B.106, by adding a
1.4subdivision.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 326B.106, is amended by adding a
1.7subdivision to read:
1.8    Subd. 15. Automatic external defibrillators; public school buildings. (a)
1.9Beginning January 1, 2014, the code must require at least one approved and operational
1.10automatic external defibrillator, consistent with section 604A.01, subdivision 2, paragraph
1.11(e), in every building in which an early childhood care or education program, an
1.12elementary or secondary education program, or a postsecondary education program or
1.13other adult learning program is provided and where more than 25 people occupy the
1.14building at one time.
1.15(b) The commissioner, in consultation with the commissioner of health, must adopt
1.16rules governing adequate training on the use of an automatic external defibrillator, the type
1.17of device required for each type of building, the placement of the device in the building,
1.18inspection procedures, and the maintenance of the device.
