1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to taxation; modifying the levy authority of the Cook-Orr Hospital
1.3District;amending Laws 1988, chapter 645, section 3, as amended.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. Laws 1988, chapter 645, section 3, as amended by Laws 1999, chapter 243,
1.6article 6, section 9, Laws 2000, chapter 490, article 6, section 15, and Laws 2008, chapter
1.7154, article 2, section 30, is amended to read:
1.8    Sec. 3. TAX; PAYMENT OF EXPENSES.
1.9    (a) The tax levied by the hospital district under Minnesota Statutes, section 447.34,
1.10must not be levied at a rate that exceeds the amount authorized to be levied under that
1.11section. The proceeds of the tax may be used for all purposes of the hospital district,
1.12except as provided in paragraph (b).
1.13    (b) 0.015 percent of taxable market value of the tax in paragraph (a) may be used
1.14solely by the Cook ambulance service and the Orr ambulance service for the purpose of
1.15capital expenditures as it relates to:
1.16(1) ambulance acquisitions for the Cook ambulance service and the Orr ambulance
1.17service and not;
1.18(2) attached and portable equipment for use in and for the ambulances; and
1.19(3) parts and replacement parts for maintenance and repair of the ambulances.
1.20The money may not be used for administrative, operation, or salary expenses.
1.21    (c) The part of the levy referred to in paragraph (b) must be administered by the
1.22Cook Hospital and passed on in equal amounts directly to the Cook area ambulance
1.23service board and the city of Orr to be held in trust until funding for a new ambulance is
2.1needed by either the Cook ambulance service or the Orr ambulance service used for the
2.2purposes in paragraph (b).
