1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to public safety; authorizing sheriffs to determine the appropriate level of
1.3staff needed to operate county jails; repealing an administrative rule establishing
1.4staffing requirements for jails;proposing coding for new law in Minnesota
1.5Statutes, chapter 641; repealing Minnesota Rules, part 2911.0900.
1.6BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.7    Section 1. [641.055] STAFFING.
1.8Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, a sheriff shall staff a county jail in a
1.9manner that promotes public safety, officer safety, and prisoner safety. The commissioner
1.10of corrections may not mandate staffing levels for jails.

1.11    Sec. 2. REPEALER.
1.12Minnesota Rules, part 2911.0900, is repealed.
