1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to natural resources; permitting a deer killed by motor vehicle to be kept
1.3by the driver;amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 97A.502.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.5    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 97A.502, is amended to read:
1.697A.502 DEER KILLED BY MOTOR VEHICLES.
1.7(a) Deer killed by a motor vehicle on a public road must be removed by the road
1.8authority, as defined by section 160.02, subdivision 25, unless the driver of the motor
1.9vehicle is allowed to possess the deer under paragraph (b). The commissioner of natural
1.10resources must provide to all road authorities standard forms for statistical purposes and
1.11the tracking of wild animals.
1.12(b) The driver of a motor vehicle that has collided with and killed a deer on a public
1.13road has priority for a possession permit for the entire deer if the facts indicate that the
1.14deer was not taken illegally.
