1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to building codes; prohibiting spans or weight loads containing
1.3engineered lightweight wood components;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012,
1.4section 299F.01, by adding a subdivision.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 299F.01, is amended by adding a
1.7subdivision to read:
1.8    Subd. 4. Single-family dwelling; engineered lightweight wood components. Any
1.9residential building code or fire code administered or enforced by the state or any of its
1.10political subdivisions must prohibit the use of spans or weight loads containing engineered
1.11lightweight wood components in the construction or remodeling of a single-family
1.12detached dwelling unit unless the unit is equipped with an automatic fire sprinkler system
1.13that meets the requirements of the International Residential Building Code.
1.14EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.
