1.2relating to elections; modifying authorization for mail balloting; appropriating
1.3money;amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 204B.45, subdivision 1.
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 204B.45, subdivision 1, is amended to read:
1.6 Subdivision 1. Authorization. Amunicipality township of any size or a city having
1.7fewer than400 1,000 registered voters on June 1 of an election year and not located in a
1.8metropolitan county as defined by section473.121 may provide balloting by mail at any
1.9municipal, county, or state election with no polling place other than the office of the
1.10auditor or clerk or other locations designated by the auditor or clerk. The governing body
1.11may apply to the county auditor for permission to conduct balloting by mail. The county
1.12board may provide for balloting by mail in unorganized territory. The governing body of
1.13any municipality may designate for mail balloting any precinct having fewer than50 100
1.14 registered voters, subject to the approval of the county auditor.
1.15Voted ballots may be returned in person to any location designated by the county
1.16auditor or municipal clerk.
1.17 Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION.
1.18$....... is appropriated from the general fund in fiscal year 2014 to the secretary of
1.19state to develop functionality within the statewide voter registration system to facilitate
1.20the processing and tracking of mail ballots.
