1.3of physical agent modalities, electrical stimulation, and ultrasound devices;
1.4amending Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 148.6440, subdivision 1.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2012, section 148.6440, subdivision 1, is amended to read:
1.7 Subdivision 1. General considerations. (a) Occupational therapists who intend
1.8to use superficial physical agent modalities must comply with the requirements in
1.9subdivision 3. Occupational therapists who intend to use electrotherapy must comply with
1.10the requirements in subdivision 4. Occupational therapists who intend to use ultrasound
1.11devices must comply with the requirements in subdivision 5. Occupational therapy
1.12assistants who intend to use physical agent modalities must comply with subdivision 6.
1.13(b) Use of superficial physical agent modalities, electrical stimulation devices, and
1.14ultrasound devices must be on the order of aphysician licensed health care professional
1.15acting within the licensed health care professional's scope of practice.
1.16(c) Prior to any use of any physical agent modality, a licensee must obtain approval
1.17from the commissioner. The commissioner shall maintain a roster of persons licensed
1.18under sections148.6401 to
148.6450 who are approved to use physical agent modalities.
1.19(d) Licensees are responsible for informing the commissioner of any changes in the
1.20information required in this section within 30 days of any change.
