1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.5 Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS; AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES.
1.6(a) $1,867,000 in fiscal year 2013 is appropriated from the clean water fund and
1.7$1,867,000 in fiscal year 2013 is appropriated from the outdoor heritage fund to the Board
1.8of Regents of the University of Minnesota for research on aquatic invasive species that
1.9threaten or have the potential to threaten the state's lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, and
1.10other habitat for fish, game, and wildlife. With the approval of the Board of Regents of the
1.11University of Minnesota, this appropriation is available until June 30, 2018, to fund:
1.12(1) two faculty positions focused on aquatic invasive species to be created within the
1.13Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior;
1.14(2) eight graduate students focused on aquatic invasive species within the
1.15Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior; and
1.16(3) up to $500,000 in equipment necessary for the aquatic invasive species research
1.17funded under this paragraph.
1.18(b) $550,000 in fiscal year 2013 is appropriated from the clean water fund and
1.19$550,000 in fiscal year 2013 is appropriated from the outdoor heritage fund to the Board
1.20of Regents of the University of Minnesota for research on carp that threaten or have
1.21the potential to threaten the state's lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, and other habitat for
1.22fish, game, and wildlife. With the approval of the Board of Regents of the University of
1.23Minnesota, this appropriation is available until June 30, 2018, to fund:
2.1(1) three graduate students focused on carp within the Department of Fisheries,
2.2Wildlife and Conservation Biology; and
2.3(2) up to $550,000 in equipment necessary for the carp research funded under this
2.4paragraph.
2.5(c) Money appropriated in this section may not be spent on activities unless they
2.6are directly related to and necessary for this appropriation. Money appropriated in this
2.7section must not be spent on indirect costs or other institutional overhead charges that are
2.8not directly related to and necessary for this appropriation.
