1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to firearms; extending time period for renewal of permit to purchase
1.3firearm from federally licensed dealer;amending Minnesota Statutes 2010,
1.4section 624.7131, subdivision 6.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 624.7131, subdivision 6, is amended to
1.7read:
1.8    Subd. 6. Permits valid statewide. Transferee permits issued pursuant to this
1.9section are valid statewide and shall expire after one year five years. A transferee permit
1.10may be renewed in the same manner and subject to the same provisions by which the
1.11original permit was obtained, except that all renewed permits must comply with the
1.12standards adopted by the commissioner under section 624.7151. Permits issued pursuant
1.13to this section are not transferable. A person who transfers a permit in violation of this
1.14subdivision is guilty of a misdemeanor.
1.15EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2011, and applies to
1.16permits to purchase a firearm issued on or after that date.
