1.1A bill for an act
1.2relating to public safety; authorizing probation officers to conduct unannounced
1.3searches of persons on probation or pretrial release;proposing coding for new
1.4law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 244.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.6    Section 1. [244.1956] SEARCHES AUTHORIZED.
1.7As a condition of being placed on court ordered probation or pretrial release to a
1.8county probation officer under section 244.19, subdivision 1, paragraph (a), clause (1)
1.9or (2), a person shall submit to unannounced searches of the person or vehicle or any
1.10portion of a premises under the person's control by, or at the direction of, any county
1.11probation officer for the purposes of determining compliance with the person's conditions
1.12of probation or pretrial release.
1.13EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective August 1, 2011, and applies
1.14to individuals on conditional release before trial or placed on probation following
1.15adjudication or conviction on or after that date.
