1.2relating to veterans; extending eligibility for gold star motor vehicle license
1.3plates to include children and siblings of persons who have died while serving in
1.4active military service;amending Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 168.1253,
1.5subdivision 1.
1.6BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

1.7    Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2010, section 168.1253, subdivision 1, is amended to
1.8read:
1.9    Subdivision 1. Definitions. (a) The terms used in this section have the meanings
1.10given them in this subdivision.
1.11(b) "Active service" has the meaning given in section 190.05, subdivision 5.
1.12(c) "Eligible person" means a surviving spouse or, parent, child, or sibling of a
1.13person who has died while serving honorably in active service. For purposes of this
1.14section, an eligibility relationship may be established by birth or adoption.
1.15(d) "Motor vehicle" means a vehicle for personal use, not used for commercial
1.16purposes, and may include a passenger automobile, motorcycle, recreational vehicle,
1.17pickup truck, or van.
1.18EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective July 1, 2011, and applies to license
1.19plate applications made on or after that date.
