senate Resolution No.89

Senators MacDonald, Bizon, Lucido, Barrett, Outman, Bullock, Wojno, Alexander, Chang, McMorrow, Moss, McBroom, Irwin, Lauwers, Runestad and Horn offered the following resolution:

A resolution to support the Michigan National Guard in its efforts to have Detroit selected as the host city for the National Guard Association of the United States 2024 national conference.

Whereas, The National Guard Association of the United States national conference brings 54 national guard associations from across the nation together to discuss national-level issues affecting the state national guards. Soldiers and airmen are educated on key national security issues and have an opportunity for professional development; and

Whereas, Participants in the National Guard Association of the United States conference include more than 5,000 Army and Air National Guard officers from all 50 states, three territories, and the District of Columbia. Department of Defense leadership, national political leaders, and senior National Guard commanders will also be present; and

Whereas, The Michigan National Guard is bidding to have Detroit serve as the host city of the 2024 conference. An estimated $3.5 to $4.5 million dollars of direct economic impact is expected to be realized by the city and region for hosting the national conference. In addition, every state national guard association hosts individual receptions requiring restaurant and hotel accommodations at multiple sites across the city and region; and

Whereas, Detroit, and Michigan as a whole, is a logical location for the National Guard Association of the United States national conference. As in World War II, when Michigan's automotive industry converted to manufacturing tanks and other military vehicles, Michigan continues to advance military readiness as the center of the military-industrial complex. Selecting Detroit as the host of the 2024 conference will bring together the National Guard soldiers and airmen with the modern technology and manufacturing support that is so critical to today's armed forces; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate, That we support the selection of Detroit for the National Guard Association of the United States 2024 national conference; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the National Guard Association of Michigan and the National Guard Association of the United States.
