MCCANN, ALEXANDER, BULLOCK, POLEHANKI, CHANG, IRWIN, GEISS, MOSS, BAYER,
MCMORROW, WOJNO, MCBROOM, ANANICH and HERTEL and referred to the Committee
on Appropriations.
A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled
"The social welfare act,"
(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 109n.
the people of the state of michigan enact:
Sec. 109n. (1) Beginning October 1,
2020, a pregnant woman with an annual household income between 133% and 185% of
the federal poverty guidelines who is eligible for and receiving medical
assistance at the time her pregnancy ends may continue receiving medical
assistance for pregnancy-related or postpartum services for 12 months after the
pregnancy ends.
(2)
The postpartum extension is available for 12 months beginning the day the
pregnancy ends and includes any remaining days in that twelfth month. The day
the pregnancy ends includes, but is not limited to, the date of a live birth,
miscarriage, or stillbirth.
(3) The postpartum extension of medical assistance services is available to a woman to whom all of the following apply:
(a) Was eligible for and receiving medical assistance on the day the pregnancy ended.
(b) Meets the nonfinancial eligibility factors to receive medical assistance.
(c) Is not currently eligible for medical assistance under another medical assistance program other than the postpartum benefits under this section.
