SENATE BILL No. 477

 

 

April 28, 2009, Introduced by Senators GEORGE, KUIPERS, PAPPAGEORGE, ALLEN, CROPSEY and KAHN and referred to the Committee on Judiciary.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1953 PA 232, entitled

 

"Corrections code of 1953,"

 

(MCL 791.201 to 791.285) by adding section 67c.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 67c. (1) The department shall enter into agreements with

 

1 or more medical schools in this state under which health care

 

services would be provided to prisoners by those medical schools.

 

     (2) The department shall report to the legislature not later

 

than 180 days after the effective date of this section, and

 

annually thereafter, on the status of any agreements entered into

 

under this section. The report shall include an evaluation of the

 

cost and efficiency of health care services delivered under the

 

agreements. Copies of the report shall be delivered to the

 

secretary of the senate and the clerk of the house of

 

representatives and to the chairpersons of the standing committees

 

of the senate and house of representatives responsible for

 

legislation pertaining to corrections issues.
