SENATE BILL No. 310

 

 

April 11, 2013, Introduced by Senators BIEDA, NOFS, HOOD and ROCCA and referred to the Committee on Insurance.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1980 PA 350, entitled

 

"The nonprofit health care corporation reform act,"

 

(MCL 550.1101 to 550.1704) by adding section 416f.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 416f. (1) A health care corporation that issues or renews

 

in this state a group or nongroup certificate that provides

 

coverage for any other prosthesis shall include in that certificate

 

coverage for scalp hair prosthesis for a member who has scalp hair

 

loss as a result of a medical condition or as a result of treatment

 

for a medical condition if the member's attending physician

 

certifies in writing the medical necessity of that proposed course

 

of rehabilitative treatment.

 

     (2) The coverage required by this section is not subject to

 

dollar limits, deductibles, and coinsurance provisions that are


 

less favorable than those for other prosthesis coverage.

 

     (3) As used in this section:

 

     (a) "Prosthesis" means an artificial appliance that is used to

 

replace lost natural structures. Prosthesis includes, but is not

 

limited to, an artificial arm, leg, breast, or eye.

 

     (b) "Scalp hair prosthesis" includes any artificial

 

substitutes for scalp hair.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act applies to

 

certificates delivered, executed, issued, amended, adjusted, or

 

renewed in this state beginning 180 days after the date this

 

amendatory act is enacted into law.
