SENATE BILL No. 288
March 22, 2011, Introduced by Senator YOUNG and referred to the Committee on Economic Development.
A bill to require certain property owners to provide certain
security measures.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. As used in this act:
(a) "Abandoned commercial property" means a commercial
property containing a structure that is vacant or dilapidated or is
open to trespass.
(b) "Commercial property" means that term as defined in
section 2 of the obsolete property rehabilitation act, 2000 PA 146,
MCL 125.2782.
Sec. 2. The owner of an abandoned commercial property shall
retain, at the owner's expense, a private security guard agency
licensed under the private security business and security alarm
act, 1968 PA 330, MCL 338.1051 to 338.1092, to protect the property
against vandalism, trespass, and illegal activity on the premises.
