Rep. Lasinski offered the following resolution:

A resolution to support the peaceful transfer of power and reaffirm the role of Michigan's presidential electors.

Whereas, President Donald Trump recently refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he is not re-elected to office. His lack of endorsement continues a long string of comments that undermine the American people's trust in our elections and our democracy; and

Whereas, The peaceful transfer of power between presidential administrations is fundamental to democracy. The will of the people must be respected by accepting the results of the election and leaving office peacefully; and

Whereas, It is imperative that Michigan's electors from all parties cast their vote for the presidential candidate whose party is certified to have received the most votes and uphold the will of the people of Michigan. These electors are bound by Michigan law to support the candidate from their political party and voting for any other person results in that elector's resignation; and

Whereas, Failing to follow the will of the state's voters and state law would be an unacceptable violation of the public trust. When the people of Michigan cast their votes for President and Vice President, everyone involved must honor that choice; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we support the peaceful transfer of power and reaffirm the role of Michigan's presidential electors to vote for the candidate for President of the United States who was certified to have received the greatest number of votes at the November general election; and be it further

Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the electors of the political parties chosen under Michigan law.
