House Resolution No. 316.  

A resolution wishing Muslims in Michigan and beyond a happy and meaningful

observance of Ramadan, a month of reflection and prayer.

Whereas, Muslims, who make up nearly 1.5 billion people worldwide and nearly 300,000

in the United States, have observed the holy month of Ramadan; and

Whereas, This month is observed in celebration of the Islamic faith and in

commemoration of the month in which the Muslim holy book, the Koran, was revealed to

Muhammad; and

Whereas, Muslims around the world will observe Ramadan by refraining from food,

drink, and other activities during daylight hours; and

Whereas, Muslims spend this time in reflection and prayer, while strengthening the

bonds of family and friendship; and

Whereas, This month of sacrifice and contemplation begins at sunset on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, and continues through Friday, September 20, 2010, with Eid al-Fitr, a day of joyous celebration; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body extend

its warmest wishes to Muslims in Michigan and beyond on the observance of Ramadan and then

the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, when we will wish our Muslim friends and neighbors Eid

Mubarak!
