            Reps. Howrylak, Canfield, Chirkun, Clemente, Cochran, Elder, Faris, Garrett, Geiss, Green, Greig, Hoadley, Hughes, Jones, Liberati, Maturen, Sneller and Wittenberg offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 197.

            A resolution to declare November 8, 2017, as Aicardi Syndrome Awareness Day in the state of Michigan.

            Whereas, Aicardi syndrome is an extremely rare genetic disorder that interferes with the formation of the corpus callosum; and

            Whereas, It is estimated that there are 1,000 cases in the United States and at least 4,000 cases worldwide and;

            Whereas, Aicardi syndrome is likely caused by a new mutation in a gene located on the X chromosome but the exact gene that causes Aicardi syndrome is not known; and

            Whereas, Aicardi syndrome affects mostly female babies; and

            Whereas, The ages of highest mortality risk are in the first few years of life due to respiratory failure, and systemic infections; and

            Whereas, We express our heartfelt compassion for the Michigan children and families impacted by this disorder and continue to hope for a cure; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare November 8, 2017, as Aicardi Syndrome Awareness Day in the state of Michigan.
