Reps. Glardon, Canfield, Driskell, Faris, Greig, Heise, Hoadley, Hooker, Howrylak, Hughes, LaVoy, Maturen, Sarah Roberts, Schor, Singh and Webber offered the following resolution:
House Resolution No. 94.
A resolution to declare May 2015 as Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month in the state of Michigan.
Whereas, Approximately 30,000 Americans have cystic fibrosis, a life-threatening genetic disease that affects the lungs and pancreas, and more than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene; and
Whereas, Michigan has close to 1,100 children and young adults living with the disease; and
Whereas, Michigan has two Cystic Fibrosis Chapters in both the Detroit and Grand Rapids areas and four Cystic Fibrosis Focused Groups. These groups are the Bonnell Foundation in Royal Oak, Friends of Families of Cystic Fibrosis in Grand Rapids, Hunt for a Cure in Kentwood, and Rock Cystic Foundation in Detroit; and
Whereas, Michigan has seven Cystic Fibrosis Centers. These centers are Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Wayne State University Harper University Hospital, Helen DeVos Women and Children’s Center, Spectrum Health Adult Cystic Fibrosis Care Center, Michigan State University Pediatric and Adult, University of Michigan Pediatric and Adult, and Western Michigan University School of Medicine Clinics; and
Whereas, Cystic Fibrosis Chapters and volunteers will come together in the state of Michigan to raise awareness about this devastating disease this May to achieve their mission of curing and controlling cystic fibrosis; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives, That the members of this legislative body declare May 2015 as Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month in the state of Michigan.
