A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled
"The revised school code,"
(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1242.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1242. (1) Not later than October 1, 2018, the board of a
school district or board of directors of a public school academy
shall submit a report to the department that includes both of the
following, in a form and manner prescribed by the department:
(a) The name of each school operated by the school district or
public school academy in which a school resource officer is
utilized or a statement indicating that none of the schools
operated by the school district or public school academy utilize a
school resource officer, as applicable.
(b) If the school district or public school academy operates a
school in which a school resource officer is utilized, all of the
following:
(i) The name of each school resource officer.
(ii) The relevant training completed by each school resource
officer.
(iii) The employment history of each school resource officer.
(iv) A statement indicating whether each school resource
officer is armed and any local rules or regulations governing the
conduct of an armed school resource officer.
(2) The board of a school district or board of directors of a
public school academy shall update a report under subsection (1),
as necessary, in a form and manner prescribed by the department.
(3) A report under this section is exempt from disclosure
under the freedom of information act, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 to
15.246.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
