A bill to amend 1939 PA 280, entitled
"The social welfare act,"
(MCL 400.1 to 400.119b) by adding section 14k.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 14k. (1) An individual is not eligible to receive food
assistance benefits if he or she is a noncustodial parent who is
currently under an obligation to pay a child support arrearage.
(2) Each office of the friend of the court shall report to the
office of child support the names of persons who have a current
support arrearage, and the office of child support shall provide
that information to the department.
(3) The department shall seek a waiver from the United States
department of health and human services, if required, to carry out
the provisions of this section.
(4) As used in this section:
(a) "Office of child support" means the office created in
section 2 of the office of child support act, 1971 PA 174, MCL
400.232.
(b) "Office of friend of the court" means an agency created in
section 3 of the friend of the court act, 1982 PA 294, MCL 552.503.
