A bill to amend 1965 PA 203, entitled
"Commission on law enforcement standards act,"
(MCL 28.601 to 28.616) by adding section 9e.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 9e. The commission shall promulgate rules to require
initial and periodic training regarding the handling of dogs and
other pet animals by law enforcement officers during law
enforcement situations. The training shall, at a minimum, include
instruction in recognizing animal behavior to reduce encounters
with dogs and other pet animals and appropriate nonlethal means of
dealing with those animals when designated animal control officers
are not available.
