A bill to amend 1994 PA 203, entitled
"Foster care and adoption services act,"
(MCL 722.951 to 722.960) by adding section 4f.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 4f. (1) Beginning not later than 1 year after the
effective date of the amendatory act that added this section, the
department shall provide to a child in foster care in this state
who is over 15 years of age the opportunity to visit an institution
of higher learning located in this state or an armed forces
recruiter located in this state before the child is no longer a
child in foster care in this state.
(2) As used in this section, "institution of higher learning"
means a public community or junior college established under
section 7 of article VIII of the state constitution of 1963 or part
25 of the revised school code, 1976 PA 451, MCL 380.1601 to
380.1607, or a state university described in section 4, 5, or 6 of
article VIII of the state constitution of 1963. Institution of
higher learning includes a public postsecondary vocational or
technical school.
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days
after the date it is enacted into law.
