HOUSE BILL No. 5153

December 15, 2015, Introduced by Rep. Lucido and referred to the Committee on Elections.

 

     A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled

 

"The revised school code,"

 

(MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1284c.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 1284c. (1) If all or a portion of a public school

 

building is used as a polling place on an election day, as

 

permitted under section 662 of the Michigan election law, MCL

 

168.662, the governing body of the public school shall ensure that

 

pupils are not in attendance at that school building on the day of

 

the election.

 

     (2) Subsection (1) does not prohibit a school district,

 

intermediate school district, or public school academy from

 


offering or requiring professional development on an election day

 

for personnel employed or assigned to work at the school building.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.
