HOUSE BILL No. 4521

 

April 9, 2013, Introduced by Rep. Segal and referred to the Committee on Insurance.

 

     A bill to amend 1980 PA 350, entitled

 

"The nonprofit health care corporation reform act,"

 

(MCL 550.1101 to 550.1704) by adding section 416f.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 416f. A health care corporation that offers a group or

 

nongroup certificate that provides coverage for first assistant at

 

surgery services when the first assistant at surgery services are

 

rendered by a licensed health professional other than a physician

 

shall include in that certificate coverage for first assistant at

 

surgery services rendered by a registered professional nurse who is

 

acting as a registered nurse first assistant within the scope of

 

his or her license or specialty certification, and payment for

 

those services shall be made on an equitable basis. Payments to


 

registered professional nurses who are acting as registered nurse

 

first assistants for first assistant at surgery services may be

 

subject to the same credentialing and contracting requirements that

 

apply to other licensed health professionals paid for first

 

assistant at surgery services.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act applies to

 

certificates delivered, executed, issued, amended, adjusted, or

 

renewed in this state beginning 180 days after the date this

 

amendatory act is enacted into law.

 

     Enacting section 2. This amendatory act does not take effect

 

unless all of the following bills of the 97th Legislature are

 

enacted into law:
