2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John Walsh D'Arcy III, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | August 23, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was born on August 8, 1926 in | ||||||
6 | Joliet; his parents were Verna and John D'Arcy; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III attended St. Raymond's in Joliet | ||||||
8 | and St. Thomas Military Academy in St. Paul before serving in | ||||||
9 | the United States Navy as a bombardier during World War II; | ||||||
10 | after his honorable discharge, he attended the University of | ||||||
11 | St. Thomas in St. Paul; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was an active member of St. Mary | ||||||
13 | Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield, where he served on | ||||||
14 | various boards supporting the growth of the church and school; | ||||||
15 | his voice was familiar to daily communicants as he regularly | ||||||
16 | lectured and sang at the morning Masses; he was actively | ||||||
17 | involved in and a member of the boards of the Joliet Franciscan | ||||||
18 | Sisters and Catholic Charities; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III began his career in banking with | ||||||
20 | the Pullman Bank in Chicago, where he was instrumental in | ||||||
21 | initiating the Illinois Bank Charge before it was merged into |

1 | the VISA brand; his integrity, drive, and experience caught the | ||||||
2 | interest of several Joliet businessmen, who recruited him to | ||||||
3 | lead the founding of Heritage Bank and Trust in 1971; he made | ||||||
4 | various investments, including in the founding of | ||||||
5 | International Games, distributor of the popular card game UNO, | ||||||
6 | which enabled him to later realize his true lifelong ambitions | ||||||
7 | of driving tractors and farming; after retirement, he purchased | ||||||
8 | various farms and operated them with his sons; he also founded | ||||||
9 | JJD Enterprises and Caton Farms; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III and his wife actively served the | ||||||
11 | communities of Plainfield and Joliet; he was President of the | ||||||
12 | Joliet Rotary Club, a Plainfield Village Trustee, a member of | ||||||
13 | the Plainfield Library Board, a trustee of the University of | ||||||
14 | St. Francis in Joliet, and a longtime benefactor of Lewis | ||||||
15 | University in Romeoville; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III was preceded in death by his | ||||||
17 | parents; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, John D'Arcy III is survived by his wife of 67 | ||||||
19 | years, Margaret Jeanette; his children, Margaret (Jim) Lacey, | ||||||
20 | John (Diane), Kevin (Vicky), Terry (Sue), Patrick (Kathy), | ||||||
21 | Candace (Tom) Nielsen, Michael (Beverly), and Tom (Sue); his | ||||||
22 | grandchildren, Kristen Corcoran, Scott, Mike, and John Lacey, | ||||||
23 | Jennifer Ness, John and Ryan D'Arcy, Jim, Brooke, and Andrew |

8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
9 | family and friends, mourn the passing of John Walsh D'Arcy III; | ||||||
10 | and be it further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of John D'Arcy III as an expression of | ||||||
13 | our sympathy.
