2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Alice A. Martin of Alton, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on October 11, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Alice Martin was born in Oxford, Mississippi to | ||||||
6 | Anderson and Mable (Kimmons) Harris on January 31, 1941; she | ||||||
7 | married Douglas C. Martin Sr. on February 7, 1964; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Alice Martin was employed with the Alton Mental | ||||||
9 | Health Center for 25 years; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Alice Martin was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul | ||||||
11 | Catholic Church; she served as 4th Ward Alderman for the City | ||||||
12 | of Alton for 10 years; she was a member of the National Counsel | ||||||
13 | of Negro Women and the Coalition for Concerned Citizens; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Alice Martin was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
15 | her son, Douglas Martin Jr.; her daughter, Carla Martin; her | ||||||
16 | sister, Frankie Alexander; and her brother, Joseph Brown; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Alice Martin is survived by her husband, Douglas; | ||||||
18 | her son, Jon F. Martin; her grandson, Jon F. Martin Jr.; her | ||||||
19 | extended family members, Jonathan and Janet Ngwa, and their two | ||||||
20 | children, Ketoura and Kwame; and a host of nieces, nephews, |

2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | Alice A. Martin, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
5 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
6 | further
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Alice Martin as an expression of our | ||||||
9 | deepest sympathy.
