SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Alice A. Martin of Alton, who passed away
on October 11, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Alice Martin was born in Oxford, Mississippi to
Anderson and Mable (Kimmons) Harris on January 31, 1941; she
married Douglas C. Martin Sr. on February 7, 1964; and
WHEREAS, Alice Martin was employed with the Alton Mental
Health Center for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, Alice Martin was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul
Catholic Church; she served as 4th Ward Alderman for the City
of Alton for 10 years; she was a member of the National Counsel
of Negro Women and the Coalition for Concerned Citizens; and
WHEREAS, Alice Martin was preceded in death by her parents;
her son, Douglas Martin Jr.; her daughter, Carla Martin; her
sister, Frankie Alexander; and her brother, Joseph Brown; and
WHEREAS, Alice Martin is survived by her husband, Douglas;
her son, Jon F. Martin; her grandson, Jon F. Martin Jr.; her
extended family members, Jonathan and Janet Ngwa, and their two
children, Ketoura and Kwame; and a host of nieces, nephews,

cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Alice A. Martin, and extend our sincere condolences to her
family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Alice Martin as an expression of our
deepest sympathy.
