2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Tanya Lynette "Tan" Sanford, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on October 12, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Tanya Sanford was born in Centreville to Richard | ||||||
6 | Jr. and Fannie (Tally) Bolden on December 4, 1972; she grew up | ||||||
7 | in East St. Louis and was educated in East St. Louis School | ||||||
8 | District 189; she was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist | ||||||
9 | Church, where she was in the Sunshine Band and a youth usher; | ||||||
10 | she was
awarded a 1987-1988 Certificate of Merit from Who's Who | ||||||
11 | Among American High School Students and graduated from Lincoln | ||||||
12 | Senior High in 1990; she married Carlos Sanford on July 20, | ||||||
13 | 1996 and they lived in Belleville, before moving to O'Fallon; | ||||||
14 | she earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1996 and a Master of Language | ||||||
15 | Arts in 1998 from Western
Illinois University in Macomb; and

16 | WHEREAS, From 1997 to
1999, Tanya Sanford was employed by | ||||||
17 | the Madison School District; for the last 16 years, she worked | ||||||
18 | in School District 189 at the
Vivian D. Adams Early Childhood | ||||||
19 | Center; she also worked part-time for the RehabCare and Kindred | ||||||
20 | Hospital
Rehabilitation Services as a speech-language | ||||||
21 | pathologist; and

22 | WHEREAS, Tanya Sanford was a member of Victory Church St. |

1 | Louis in Cahokia; she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta | ||||||
2 | Sorority, where she was initiated into the Epsilon XI
Chapter | ||||||
3 | and was an active member of the East St. Louis chapter; she | ||||||
4 | served as secretary for the East St. Louis Chapter of Jack
and | ||||||
5 | Jill of America, Incorporated; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Tanya Sanford was preceded in death by her | ||||||
7 | maternal grandparents, Margaret and Milton Tally Sr., and her | ||||||
8 | paternal
grandparents, Richard Sr. and Mamie (Clayborne) | ||||||
9 | Bolden; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Tanya Sanford is survived by her husband of 20 | ||||||
11 | years, Carlos Sr.; her sons,
Carlos Jr. "CJ" and Tyler; her | ||||||
12 | parents; her sister, Francea
Bolden; her aunts, Diane (Hollis) | ||||||
13 | Bolden Taylor, Pamela Bolden, Margaret Marie Tally, Dolores | ||||||
14 | (James) Johnson, and Beverly Tally;
her uncles, Milton (Sharon) | ||||||
