2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John C. Zickus, who passed away on June | ||||||
4 | 18, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Zickus was born in Waukegan to John and | ||||||
6 | Monica (Masilionas) Zickus on October 15, 1937; he married | ||||||
7 | Diane Murtha on January 14, 1961; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, At a young age, John Zickus was apprenticed as a | ||||||
9 | union carpenter and became a fine craftsman, known for his | ||||||
10 | skill and attention to detail; he joined the Waukegan Fire | ||||||
11 | Department in 1964, where he spent 26 years; he retired as a | ||||||
12 | lieutenant and assistant shift commander in 1990; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, John Zickus was proud of his Lithuanian heritage | ||||||
14 | and its language, culture, and hearty food, and he loved to | ||||||
15 | share it with family and friends on holidays; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, John Zickus loved fishing for walleye, and his | ||||||
17 | family spent many happy vacations at his favorite spot at Woman | ||||||
18 | Lake in Longville, Minnesota; he also enjoyed hunting pheasant | ||||||
19 | with his best canine pal, "Misty", for 16 years; his favorite | ||||||
20 | passion was gardening, where he was renown for his abundance of | ||||||
21 | vegetables; and

1 | WHEREAS, John Zickus was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
2 | and his stepfather, John Butkus; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, John Zickus is survived by his wife of 57 years, | ||||||
4 | Diane; his daughters, Karen (Jim) Avery and Monica Zickus; his | ||||||
5 | grandchildren, Adam (Jessica), Alec, and Madison Avery; his | ||||||
6 | great-grandchildren, Lucy Louise Avery; his half-sister, Rose | ||||||
7 | (Jim) Huisel; his nephews, Steven and Jonathon Huisel; his | ||||||
8 | brother-in-law, Denny (Judy) Murtha; his sister-in-law, Linda | ||||||
9 | Sack; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
12 | John C. Zickus and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
13 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
14 | further

15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of John Zickus as an expression of our | ||||||
17 | deepest sympathy.
