2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Howard Ray "Rosie" Holladay Sr. of East | ||||||
4 | Moline, who passed away on May 18, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Howard Holladay Sr. was born in Conesville, Iowa | ||||||
6 | to Floyd and Velma Strong Holladay on September 16, 1925; he | ||||||
7 | grew up in Muscatine, Iowa; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Howard Holladay Sr. joined the United States | ||||||
9 | Marines in June of 1943; he served over two years in the Second | ||||||
10 | Marine Division in the South Pacific during World War II; he | ||||||
11 | was stationed in Nagasaki, Japan for over three months, | ||||||
12 | following the dropping of the atomic bomb; he was honorably | ||||||
13 | discharged as a Corporal in January of 1946; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Howard Holladay Sr. married Wilma Ann Webb at the | ||||||
15 | Spangler Chapel in Muscatine on June 30, 1973; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Howard Holladay Sr. was a heavy equipment operator | ||||||
17 | with Rock Island Local 537; he also farmed in Illinois City; | ||||||
18 | and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Howard Holladay Sr. was a past master of Norwood | ||||||
20 | Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 622 in Norwood, |

1 | Missouri; he was a past Worthy Patron of Norwood Eastern Star | ||||||
2 | and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge; he was a member | ||||||
3 | of American Legion Post 27 in Muscatine, Iowa and the VFW Post | ||||||
4 | in Rock Island; he enjoyed traveling with his wife and fishing | ||||||
5 | in Arkansas; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Howard Holladay Sr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
7 | wife, Wilma; his parents; his sisters, Doris Middagh and | ||||||
8 | Geraldine Middagh; his brothers, Clyde, Floyd A., Kenneth, and | ||||||
9 | Jack Holladay; and his granddaughter, Mandy; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Howard Holladay Sr. is survived by his children, | ||||||
11 | Howard (Terri) Holladay Jr., Henry (Kathy) Holladay, Tim | ||||||
12 | Holladay, and Mindy Baker; his stepdaughters, Madelyn | ||||||
13 | (Michael) Doyle, Georgia Hoover, Nancy Gurney, and Vivian | ||||||
14 | (William) Schmelzer; his grandchildren, Ryan, Teresa, Amy, | ||||||
15 | Lindsey, and Jakab; nine great-grandchildren; and several | ||||||
16 | step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; therefore, be | ||||||
17 | it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Howard Ray "Rosie" Holladay Sr., and extend our sincere | ||||||
21 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
22 | him; and be it further
