2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Grady M. Chronister of Springfield, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on September 14, 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Grady Chronister was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma | ||||||
6 | to Hugh Grady and Alice Myers Chronister on November 22, 1938; | ||||||
7 | he was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Oklahoma State | ||||||
8 | University; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Grady Chronister was an entrepreneur in the oil | ||||||
10 | industry for 51 years; he began Chronister Oil with Derby Super | ||||||
11 | Gas stores; he was an innovator, securing the first | ||||||
12 | "self-serve" permit in the State of Illinois, for which | ||||||
13 | Governor Jim Thompson was his first customer; he sold the Super | ||||||
14 | Gas chain in 1978 to Marathon Oil and founded a second chain, | ||||||
15 | Future Gas; in 1980, he opened the first convenience store, | ||||||
16 | Qik-n-EZ, in the State of Illinois; and

17 | WHEREAS, Grady Chronister was an Elder in the Westminster | ||||||
18 | Presbyterian Church; he was a former president and trustee of | ||||||
19 | the Springfield YMCA; he was also a trustee of the Abraham | ||||||
20 | Lincoln Boy Scout Council; he was a supporter of UIS athletics, | ||||||
21 | the arts, and the Illinois Symphony Orchestra; he was a former | ||||||
22 | president of the Illini Country Club; he contributed to many |

1 | local and statewide non-profit organizations; he was a strong | ||||||
2 | supporter of youth programs throughout the area; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Grady Chronister enjoyed golf, bridge, and | ||||||
4 | spending time with his family; and

5 | WHEREAS, Grady Chronister was preceded in death by his | ||||||
6 | parents; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Grady Chronister is survived by his wife, Linda | ||||||
8 | (Longworth) Chronister; his daughters, Wendy Chronister (Peter | ||||||
9 | Rogers), Julie Chronister (Mark Myers), and Amy Ridley (John); | ||||||
10 | and his grandchildren, Caroline and Carter Rogers, Wyatt Myers, | ||||||
11 | and Emma and Grady Ridley; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | Grady M. Chronister, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
15 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
16 | further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Grady Chronister as an expression of | ||||||
19 | our deepest sympathy.
