2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Virginia R. Garvey of Joliet, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on May 14, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Virginia Garvey was born in Streator to John and | ||||||
6 | Mary (Harlacher) Neighbor on July 1, 1922; she graduated from | ||||||
7 | the St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1943; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Virginia Garvey retired as a Certified Registered | ||||||
9 | Nurse Anesthetist from the Associated Anesthesiologists of | ||||||
10 | Joliet in 1990; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Virginia Garvey was an active member of St. | ||||||
12 | Patrick Catholic Church, serving as a greeter, money counter, | ||||||
13 | and extra ordinary minister to the homebound of the parish; she | ||||||
14 | was also a member of the Council of Catholic Women, Club 55, | ||||||
15 | and the original Mothers Club of the parish; she enjoyed | ||||||
16 | volunteering for the Joliet Area Community Hospice, the Will | ||||||
17 | Grundy Medical Clinic, the St. Joseph Medical Center Pastoral | ||||||
18 | Care Department, and the St. Joseph Medical Center Auxiliary; | ||||||
19 | and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Virginia Garvey was a member of the Catholic | ||||||
21 | Women's League of Joliet, the Ladies of the Elks Auxiliary, the |

1 | Joliet Hospitality Club, the Women of the Moose, and the Joliet | ||||||
2 | Area Community Hospice; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, In 2003, Virginia Garvey received the Joliet | ||||||
4 | Diocese Woman of the Year for St. Patrick's Parish, the Silver | ||||||
5 | Eagle award from the Joliet Rotary Club, and the Joliet Area | ||||||
6 | Community Hospice Health and Community Service Award from the | ||||||
7 | United Way of Will County; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Virginia Garvey enjoyed playing golf and bridge | ||||||
9 | and serving her community as well as her family; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Virginia Garvey was preceded in death by her | ||||||
11 | husband, Joseph J. Garvey; her parents; her brothers, Paul | ||||||
12 | (Annie) Neighbor, William (Leona) Neighbor, and Leonard | ||||||
13 | (Geraldine) Neighbor; and her sister, Josephine (Ralph) | ||||||
14 | Carmean; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Virginia Garvey is survived by her son, John | ||||||
16 | (Anne) Garvey; her twin grandchildren, Suzanne Marie (Zachery) | ||||||
17 | Dieter and John Thomas (Athena) Garvey, Jr.; her | ||||||
18 | great-granddaughter, Riley Dieter; and many nieces and | ||||||
19 | nephews; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Virginia R. Garvey, and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
2 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
3 | further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Virginia Garvey as an expression of | ||||||
6 | our deepest sympathy.
